HAFLONG, Nov 1: The Chavang Kut – the post-harvesting festival of Kuki community was celebrated with full traditional fervour at Songpijang village in Dima Hasao district here on Friday.
Diphu sub divisional agricultural officer (SDAO) P Jevin D Changsan , graced the programme as chief guest. Sonpijang gaon burah P Lamkai Guite, executive secretary of KCC Assam Synod, Rev. Henkhovum Haolai also attended the programme as distinguished guests.
The programme commenced with a prayer followed by hoisting of Chavang Kut flag and a welcome dance performed by the youth of the Kuki community.
On the day, a magnificent Kuki cultural dance was performed demonstrating history, culture and life of the Kuki people. The Chavang Kut Festival the most jubilant festival celebrated by the Kukis every year on November 1.
November 1 was a holiday for the people under the jurisdiction of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC). Assam government has also declared it as restricted holiday since 2017.
