Kokrajhar, June 18: A Bhoomi Puja ceremony was performed on Monday at Beswargaon in Kokrajhar district to establish Cancer Care Centre along with other 18 centres across the state. The centre has been initiated by Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF) under the joint venture of government of Assam and Tata Trust to improve the cancer care facilities in Assam and Northeast.
BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, Assam minister Pramila Rani Brahma, BTC executive members Ganesh Kachary, Rajib Brahma, Doneswar Goyary, Lwmsrao Daimary graced as guests on the occasion which witnessed huge gathering during the ground breaking ceremony to construct the cancer care centre. The centrally organised programme of the ground breaking ceremony of 19 new cancer centres was organised in Guwahati and the whole programme was screened through projectors highlighting the ventures initiated by government of Assam and Tata Trust. It has been expected that the centres will be fully constructed within 24 months.
Stressing on improved medical facilities in the region, Mohilary said that medical institute’s numbers must be increased to facilitate better medical services across the state. He has lauded government of Assam and Tata Trust for initiating such medical centres for paving the way to make better medical services among citizens.
This centre will be facilitating better health service communication and citizens would be benefitted.
He has thanked CM Sarbananda Sonowal, health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for approving establishment of cancer care centre in Kokrajhar.
“There are 33 districts in the state, but we have only 13 medical colleges (including proposed medical colleges) in the state. So, more medical colleges are to be set up across the state”, Mohilary said.
Minister Brahma lauded the state government for initiating to set up cancer centre in Kokrajhar along with other districts across the state and said that people of this region would be benefited to take medical treatment. She said that the BJP led alliance state government was working for the welfare of the citizens to build a healthy state as well all round development.
Among others, BTC principal secretary BC Phukan, Kokrajhar DC Niranjan Baruah, SP Rajen Singh, health department officials were prominent attendees on the occasion.
