KOKRAJHAR, Aug 9: Hundreds of tea garden workers, anganawadi workers/helpers, mid day meal cooks and members of Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Thursday staged a ‘jail bharo’ programme at DNH High School playground in Kokrajhar, demanding early solution to various demands and issues, which included hike of daily wages for tea estate labours, proper amenities to the tea-estate workers, hike of salaries, provide land pattas etc.
Protestors came with banner, placards and shouted slogans demanding hike of salaries for the anganawadi worker/helper up to 18,000 from existing 3000. Mid-day meal cooks demanded salary hike up to satisfactory range from existing 1000, which was organised by CITU and Anganawadi workers association.
Tea estate workers also demanded hike of daily wage to Rs. 350 from 136. Protestors strongly slammed the government for not initiating welfare to the workers and anganawadi worker/helper. They also alleged that BJP-led NDA government have failed to fulfil hopes and aspirations of the workers as promised during elections in the state.
