Complete all road construction works in Barak valley by Nov15: CM to officials

GUWAHATI, Oct 11: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday set November 15 as the deadline for completion of all the ongoing road construction projects of the three districts of the Barak Valley region.

The chief minister directed this while chairing a review meeting to take stock of the status of implementation of the PWD road projects in the valley. The meeting was attended by the deputy commissioners, superintendents of police, PWD and forest officials as well as the contractors associated with the projects, which was held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner of Cachar district on Wednesday.

“Roads are very vital link for smooth communication. The ongoing road contraction projects must be executed expeditiously so that people can see the real face of development. All stakeholders involved in the construction works will ensure that the projects are completed on or before November 15 ahead of the Namami Barak festival”,

The chief minister further asked the deputy commissioners of the three districts to sit across with the forest officials and the contractors to solve the bottlenecks which are delaying the construction works of the roads. Taking note of the shortage of stones and sand, which are vital for construction of roads, Sonowal directed the deputy commissioners to solve the matter and detect potential zones in the region to make adequate supply of the same.

Sonowal also instructed PWD commissioner Rajesh Kemprai and chief conservator of forest to oversee the construction works from time to time and take remedial measures for any problem affecting smooth execution of the projects. He asked PWD commissioner to take personal initiative to repair the road from Airport at Kumbhirgram to Karimganj district.

The chief minister further asked PWD minister Parimal Suklabaidya who was also present in the meeting to watch over the entire road construction work and informed that he would review the progress from him after 15 days.

Reiterating state government’s commitment to transform the Barak valley region as a potential economic hub, Sonowal called upon everyone present in the meeting to play an important role.

“To infuse vitality in the trade and commerce activities, all of us will have to play a crucial role. State government has been relentlessly working to develop the modes of communication in the region”, Sonowal mentioned.

The chief minister also asked the Divisional Forest Officers of the Barak valley region to ensure availability of construction materials in cognizance with the specifications put in place for the purpose. He also announced that the contractors who perform good works would be awarded by the government for their service.

Apart from PWD minister Parimal Suklabaidya, the review meeting was also attended by deputy speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dilip Kumar Paul, MLAs of the region, alongwith senior officers of the civil and police administration.
