KOKRAJHAR, Oct 12: Chairperson of Assam state commission for women, Chikimiki Talukdar expressed serious concern over the prevailing situations like atrocities on women and child lifting cases, which are on a rise in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts. A 4-member delegation team of the commission led by chairperson Talukdar on Saturday visited Kokrajhar which included Kabita Basumatary, Niyati Dey and Dhira Talukdar. The team has also visited Chirang in the evening and took stock about the prevailing situations in both the districts besides meeting with the district administrations and police high officials at Circuit House. The team discussed on the prevailing situations that emphasized safe and security of the women and child protection amongst the society.
Notably, four persons were arrested and two persons reportedly physically assaulted for being involved with spraying, atrocities on women, child lifting cases in Kokrajhar district itself. A woman was attacked with sharp weapons that left her with serious injuries at Banduguri under Sidli police station in Chirang district on September 9 last.
Talukdar said that women and children must be protected from crimes which have been occurring in the region. She emphasized to organise awareness campaign programmes and social integration programmes to fight such evil. She added that she will submit a report to the state government, at the earliest, about the prevailing situations in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts.
Meanwhile, several women organisations, NGOs, social activists met the women delegation team and urged the Chairperson to take stern initiatives against the prevailing situations like anti-social activities which are creating unhealthy environment.
