Cop attack case: Two poachers arrested, arms seized

BOKAKHAT, Oct 3: In a major breakthrough, the police have arrested two poachers who had attacked a police team led by Kamargaoan police station officer-in-charge Mayurjit Gogoi from Lokhowjan in Golaghat district on Wednesday night.

Gogoi who led a police team to conduct a search operation against the poachers were attacked by the poachers, who immediately fled the scene.

The two poachers identified as Sachin Karmakar and Shiva Karmakar have been arrested during a search operation conducted by SI Deben Bora on Wednesday night. Both the criminals were caught near a petrol pump of Lokhowjan here.

Police also seized one 303 rifle and a machete used to attack the OC from the duo.

A massive manhunt was on to arrest four more poachers who were also in the gang.

Gogoi was attacked by a gang of poachers during an operation led by additional SP Surojit Singh Paneswar along with Kamargaon police against rhino poachers in Bokakhat on October 1.

Gogoi sustained serious injuries on his left hand when the poachers attacked him with a machete. He was immediately rushed to the Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh after a first aid at Kamala Miri Civil hospital in Bokakhat.
