Covid-19: State logs fresh 10 deaths; toll 492

GUWAHATI, Sept 15: Assam reported another ten deaths due to coronavirus taking the toll to 492 in the state on Tuesday.

Four casualties were reported from Kamrup M district, two from Dibrugarh and one each from Tinsukia, Karbi Anglong, Barpeta and North Lakhimpur districts.

“The deceased were identified as: Binayak Prasad Saraf (74), Bithi Sharma (78), Jogeshwar Gogoi (52), Kamal Ranjan Dutta (78) of Kamrup Metro; Chandra Prabha Das (73), Eliza Begum (70) of Dibrugarh; Gauri Gogoi (58) of Tinsukia; Britendra Daimary (56) of Karbi Anglong; Jyotish Talukdar (50) of Barpeta; Mahabir Prasad Sharma (60) of North Lakhimpur,” state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 2409 fresh cases of the virus were detected out of 32770 tests done in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 7.35%, the minister said.

Of the fresh cases, 633 were detected from Kamrup M, 201 from Dibrugarh and 120 from Lakhimpur district.

The total Covid-19 cases in the state have risen to 1,46,575 with 1,15,051 recoveries. The active cases stand at 31,029.


Two more Covid-19 patients die in Jorhat

The death of two more Covid-19 infected patients in Jorhat district has increased the death toll of positive cases in the district to 21 on Tuesday.

Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati informed on Tuesday evening that Ravindra Kumar Das (68) of Basbari locality here and Robin Sonowal (60) of Mukti Nagar, Jorhat, expired of COVID-19.

On Sunday, Korati had informed that late Ramesh Prasad Budhia, 65 Years of A.T. Road, Thakurbari, Jorhat had unfortunately expired of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 134 more positive cases without travel history were found positive in Jorhat district on Tuesday taking the total number of positive cases in the district to 7343.

Korati stated that that among the 134 positive cases found on Tuesday 14 were from Jorhat town. The total number of active cases in the district on Tuesday was 1684, the deputy commissioner stated.


Covid-19 tally rises to 2,806 in Hailakandi district

25 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from South Assam’s Hailakandi district on Tuesday, taking the total tally to 2,806.

Health authorities here disclosed that of the 25 positive cases, 24:have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) while one under RT-PCR. 607 swab samples were taken on Tuesday.

Altogether 1,551 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 2,468 persons on being cured have been released from hospitals. The number of active cases is 319.

Eight COVID-19 positive patients have breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. 11 deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board.

109 COVID-19 asymptomatic persons are under home isolation.

Of the 24,115 swab samples taken, 21,543 have tested negative. Swab results of 437 persons are awaited.

The district administration has stepped up swab samples collection. 60,314 swab samples were taken under RT-PCR and RAT.

40-45 mobile medical teams have fanned out to different parts of the district.
