NAGAON, March 22: Under systematic voters’ education and electoral programme participation (SVEEP), district election officer, Nagaon election district, has initiated a slew of novel steps. District election officer cum DC of Nagaon, Kavitha Padmanabhan issued printed leaflets which were distributed among the voters at their respective doorsteps by officials of the district administration with a view to make aware of voters to exercise their franchise in the ensuing assembly election to be held in first as well as second phase in the district.
As per an official report, around 1084 voters were reached under Panigaon Pohukata LP School polling station in Samaguri LAC, 970 voters under Phulaniati Gandhiji Vidyalaya polling station in Batadroba LAC, 2078 voters under Telia Bebejia LP School polling station in Rupahihat LAC and 413 voters under Anthgaon Balak Nimna Prathomik Vidyalaya polling station. It is however said that as per directives of Election Commission of India, the district administration has initiated all these steps only to focus on low voter turnout areas and targeted around 50,000 voters in almost 60 polling stations in seven constituencies in Nagaon election district. Similarly, targeting first time voters, the district administration has also taken a slew of initiatives to make them aware of their democratic as well as voting rights.
