KOKRAJHAR, March 6: In a bid to conduct smooth, free and fair election in 31-Sidli (ST) LAC under Chirang election district, Gautam Talukdar, deputy commissioner and district election officer, Chirang, held a meeting with civil and police officials involved in election process in the conference hall of DC’s office at Kajalgaon.
During the meeting he briefed the officials on overall election preparedness in the district including arrangement of postal ballot facility for the electors above the age of 80 years, electors with physical disabilities, Covid-19 suspects or affected persons and the persons employed in essential services.
The roles and responsibilities of police officials with respect to the conduct of election, measures to be taken for safety against Coronavirus at polling stations, process for granting permission to political parties and candidates for holding meetings and rallies, process for monitoring of MCC violation and expenditure made by candidates and political parties, use of IT applications like Suvidha app, cVIGIL portal, ETPBS were also elucidated by him during the meeting.
In other topics of discussion, he informed that a candidate could be allowed to use only two vehicles and two persons with him/her to go inside while submitting nomination paper, but during the campaigning period at field level he/she could use five vehicles.
In his short speech, Chirang SP Sudhakar Singh said that they would arrange the security measures as per requirement based on the guidelines of the ECI for smooth conduct of elections in the district.
The meeting was also attended by additional deputy commissioners Anupam Deka, Ringkhang Mashahary, Nirmali Baruah, Pratap Das, DySP, Pulak Biswas, CO, Bengtal Rev. Circle, assistant commissioners Rakhisri Lekharu, Pratisha Dutta, Charan Narzary, CO (Attached), Sidli Rev. Circle, field- level police officers and media persons.
