HAFLONG, Feb 12: Debolal Gorlosa was appointed as the chief executive member (CEM) of 12th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) for second consecutive term.
In a notification, Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi has appointed Gorlosa as the CEM of the council with immediate effect under Rule 20 of Assam Autonomous District (Constitution of District Council) Rule, 1951, an official release informed here Tuesday.
With appointment of Gorlosa, the executive committee (EC) formation process in the NCHAC began here on Tuesday. Gorlosa will take over as the CEM of the council within a day or two. The full executive committee (EC) of the council will be formed only after recommendation of the Governor, sources said.
Gorlosa was CEM of BJP-led 11th NC Hills Autonomous Council. The BJP had drawn a blank in the 2013 council elections while the Congress and Independent candidates had won 10 seats each. But 17 elected members, including some from the Congress, had defected to the BJP in 2016 leading to the formation of BJP led government in the council.
BJP has swept the council poll held on January 19 by winning 19 of the 28 seats, while the Congress bagged two seats and the AGP managed a solitary seat. The remaining six seats went to the independent candidates, who later extended their supports to BJP. Another AGP member also joined the saffron party, increasing its strength in the council to 26.
