DIPHU, Feb 22: While welcoming Union home minister Amit Shah’s visit to Den Arong (Den gaon) in Karbi Anglong on February 25, Karbi Anglong North Cachar Hills Autonomous State Demand Committee (KANCHASDCOM) and its allied organisations- Karbi Students Association (KSA), Dimasa Students Union (DSU), Kari Adorbar, Karbi Riso Adorbar (KRA), Karbi So-Arlo Amei (KARSA) and Karbi Unemployed Youth Association (KUYA) appealed to the Union minister to declare Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao as ‘Autonomous State’ under the Article 244 (A) of the Constitution of India.
Addressing a joint press conference at the office of KANCHASDCOM on Monday, KANCHASDCOM general secretary Sing Timung said, “We heartily welcome the visit of Union home minister Amit Shah to Den Arong (Den gaon) on February 25. We appealed to him to declare Autonomous State under the Article 244 (A) of the Constitution of India comprising of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.”
The leaders of KANCHASDCOM and allied organisations said that some extremist outfits of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao will lay down arms to sign an accord with the Central government, but we appealed to the leaders of the extremist outfits not to sign any accord which is less than ‘Autonomous State’ under the provision of Article 244 (A) of the Constitution, considering the longstanding demand and the constitutional rights of the people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.
The press conference was attended by KANCHASDCOM president Ajit Timung and KRA president Bimang Kro.
