HAFLONG, Feb 22: The first matriculate lady of Dima Hasao district and first women member of district council (MDC) of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Promila Hojai breathed her last due to old age ailments here on Saturday.
She was 91. Promila Hojai was born in February 20, 1931. She was the first lady to become matriculate in 1950 from Dimasa community.
Hojai had served as a teacher in Haflong Balika Vidyalaya popularly known as Pishima School. In 1951, she was married to D Hojai former EM of NCHAC and a well known political leader of the hill district.
Promila Hojai was the first women to represent the District Council as MDC in 1975.
In addition to this, Promila Hojai was an educationist and associated with many socio-cultural organisations of the hill district.
Hundreds of her well wishers, including family members gathered at her residence to condole the death and comfort the family members.
