Dimapur, Aug 8: Dimapur will have a Multi-media-cum-Convention Centre near Dimapur railway station. The project sanctioned by the North Eastern Council (NEC) is based on a 90:10 fund sharing pattern between the council and the Nagaland government respectively.
According to Nagaland directorate of information and public relations (DIPR), the total cost of the project is likely to be around Rs 10 crore and has a completion timeframe of three years. Once completed, the 3-storied building will have a conference room, auditorium and a multi-media centre for media personnel besides Dimapur district public relations officer’s office.

The centre is being built by demolishing the district public relations officer’s office located near Dimapur railway station.

In its reply to an RTI application, the DIPR said an amount of Rs 7,31,38,000 had already been released by the government for the project. It said the first installment (2017-18) classified as “under State Resources (NEC)” was released in October 2017 while an amount of Rs 22,22,000 was released in March 2018 as 10 per cent state share against the 1st instalment and classified as “under NEC.”

The second installment amounting to Rs 5,09,16,000 and classified as “under Non-NEC” was released in May this year.

On the progress of work, DIPR director Limawati Ao was reported to have said the construction of the media centre started towards the end of 2017 and the completion of the project was subject to timely release of funds.

He said in April-May this year, the NEC asked the project be put on hold till it reviews the funding pattern and payment modes of NEC projects in general.
