TEZPUR, Dec 7: Dr Sheela Borthakur, the stalwart woman behind ‘Sadou Asam Lekhika Samaroh’ was remembered here at Tezpur on the day of her first death anniversary on Sunday. She left for her heavenly abode on June 21, 2020. As owing to the Covid-19 pandemic induced situation the committee couldn’t organise any event to pay homage to the departed soul, a slew of special programmes including tribute, book release, talk on her life, etc. were organised at the district library auditorium here for giving adequate honour to the great leader.
Among other members coming from different places, the august event was graced by Dr Karabi Deka Hazarika, Dr Satish Chandra Bhattacharya and artist Krishna Das Nath. Attending the event, Dr Karabi Deka Hazarika released late Dr Sheela Borthakur’s 560 paged-book ‘Yugagrogami’ while noted author, Dr Satish Chandra Bhattacharya released the souvenir ‘Lekhika’ and artist Krishna Das Nath inaugurated Dr Barthakur’s collection of songs.
The day started with a tribute paying programme by Dr Sheela Borthakur’s son Dr Sanjib Barthakur and writer Mrinalini Chetia, Kamala Baruah, Nirupama Misra and Kanaklata Neog which was followed by an open session under the aegis of president of central committee of the organisation, Dr Saru Saharia Nath, while secretary Manomati Kurmi delivered her welcome speech. Inaugurating the session, ex-president of the body Dr Binita Dutta spoke on the contribution of late Dr Borthakur towards the society and how she tried to build an intellectual platform among the women of the society. Mrinalini Devi, vice president of Asom Sahitya Sabha urged all women to come forward with new thoughts and ideas to lead the society. Other dignitaries present in the programme too spoke on the importance of the day.
