GUWAHATI, March 18: Assam government has declared dry days in poll areas for 48 hours beginning from 5 pm on the last day of campaigning till 5 pm of the day of voting during all the three phases of assembly elections in the state slated on March 16, April 1 and 6. An official statement here said on Thursday.
In the first phase, there would be a 48-hour liquor ban from 5 pm of March 25 to 5 pm of March 27.
For the second phase, the dry days will be in force from 5 pm of March 30 to 5 pm of April 1 and similarly, there will be dry days from 5 pm of April 4 to 5 pm of April 6 during the third phase of elections.
The order said that dry day will also be in force on the day of counting on May 2 and also on days of re-poll if any.
There would be a total ban on sale of any intoxicant during the dry days, the statement also said.
The release further said that strict actions will also be taken to prohibit clandestine sale or distribution of liquor in the adjoining constituencies to prevent movement of liquor from those areas.
