Silchar,April 1: The Cachar district administration has set up eco-friendly all women run model polling stations in all the seven constituencies of the Cachar district to attract first time voters.
This is a part from another milestone, where Cachar district has the highest number of 201 all-women polling stations in the second phase of assembly election in Assam.
The model polling stations are designed with a theme of reflecting the cultural heritage of Cachar where voters will get to celebrate their legacy and cast vote with pride. In Silchar legislative constituency, the model polling stations are arranged at Oriental School polling station and Holy Cross High School.
“Under Garv Cachar campaign, we wanted to celebrate our legacy and also make our voters proud of it by reflecting on their legacy. Handlooms and handicrafts of Cachar are on display. Historical tools used in agriculture to give first time voters a glimpse of journey of democracy so far and remind them to carry it forward. We also went the extra mile to make our model polling stations also truly model. These are all women run eco friendly polling stations with only recyclable material being used to give a message of Go Green” Cachar deputy commissioner Jalli Keerthi said.
She also added ‘ I am very proud to tell you that all of the gates decorations with Sheetal Pati and flowers have been woven locally by our SHG women. We wanted to promote pride and value in our local products for the voters’.
The first male, female, senior citizen and PwD voters were also felicitated by the polling staffs of the model polling station by gifting a sapling. The gateway to the polling station was designed by SHG women weaving traditional Sheetal Patis. The interior consisted of different type of traditional arts, types of rice grain, replica of fishes etc.
