DIPHU/ GUWAHATI/ KOKRAJHAR, Sept 2: Millions of muslims celebrated Eid-Uz-Zuha or Bakri Eid on Saturday with piety and traditional gaiety across Assam, including Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. Both the young and the old thronged mosques (big and small) in various places in the morning for the main prayers on Eid-Uz-Zuha, the festival of sacrifice.
Muslims came out early morning dressed in their finery to offer the special Eid congregational prayers at mosques and later hugged and greeted each other with ‘Eid Mubarak’ before setting off for the ceremonial sacrifice of goats. Select portions of the sacrificial meat were distributed among family, friends, relatives, neighbours and other community members.
In Diphu, the morning namaz was conducted at Zami Masjid, Dharamnala at 9 am, where Imam Hazi Giasuddin Qasami led the namaz. The congregation during the namaz prayed for world peace and tranquillity so that people of different communities, creed, colour and languages co-exist together.
After the prayer people inside the mosque and on road sides greeted each other. In Bokajan, special namaz for Eid-Uz-Zuha was performed to celebrate the festival.
