TEZPUR, March 22: Election festivities are gaining momentum in Sonitpur district as parties are gearing up their political activities. Sonitpur district goes to polls in the 1st phase of the Assam Assembly Elections. Asom Jatiya Parishad, AGP, INC, Raijor Dol and BJP have intensified their election campaign by organising public rallies, road shows and door to door visits to woo the voters. However, the party workers of almost all the parties are not satisfied about the seat adjustments. Though the state BJP tried to tender its candidacy but dramatically the central leadership chose to support AGP in Tezpur. As a result, strong resentment prevails among the party workers. Sitting MLA Brindaban Goswami also expressed his anguish against the candidature of Prithiviraj Rabha and even threatened to intensify rebellion against the party leadership. On the other hand, BJP star campaigner Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the constituency on Sunday and led a padayatra in support of AGP candidate Prithiviraj Rabha.

On the other hand, an independent candidate Sheikh Mohammed Sadique said, “I see no opposition till now who can stand against me in the election. The people will reject all political parties irrespective of regional and religious grounds. People from all communities as well as from all sections are with me and want me as their representative.”
