GUWAHATI, May 14: Eminent educationist and the satradhikar of Aadi Alengi Satra of Lakhimpur, Kamal Chandra Goswami breathed his last at his residence at Khanapara in the city on Tuesday.
He was 96. Born at Majuli in 1923, Kamal Chandra Goswami worked as a lecturer of geography in Nowgong College and later retired as the vice principal of the college in 1985.
He established the Gopinath Deb Commerce College in Nagaon.
After the news of his death, many well-wishers and relatives of the educationist flocked his residence to pay their last respects to the departed soul.
He is the late father of eminent writer Manoj Kumar Goswami.
Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi mourned the death of veteran educationist and said, “Eminent educationist and satradhikar of Aadi Alengi Satra Kamal Chandra Goswami’s death is a huge loss to the state”. Though he departed for his heavenly abode, late Goswami will continue to be a source of inspiration for hordes of his followers and people in general,” Mukhi added.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Former chief minister and AGP leader Prafulla Kumar mahanta also condoled the death of the satradhikar and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
