DIPHU, Aug 30: Officials of Central Range and Protection Range under Forest West Division evicted encroachers from the forest area of Tamulbari District Council Reserve Forest (DCRF) on Wednesday.
This was the second eviction drive taken out in Tamulbari DCRF covering an area of 13.86 sq km. The first drive was launched in July 27.
Officials said more than 300 people gathered in the DCRF area early in the morning where young men and women were seen taking part in encroaching forest land. Villagers from Longnit, Kheroni, Borlangfer and Hamren area were mostly among the encroachers. In order to bring the situation under control, the police personnel from Diphu police station and Diphu town outpost rushed to the spot and disperse the encroachers. An FIR has been lodged with Borlangfer police station. Presently the forest department has set up camp at 12 KM in order to give protection to DCRF from encroachers.
