DALGAON, July 25: Farmers of Dalgaon and the entire Darrang district are facing extreme hardship in cultivating aman paddy due to drought. Many farmers could not cultivate the paddy even after planting the seedbed due to loss of seedbed and lack of water. About 70-80% of aman paddy land is fallow. Some farmers of Dalgaon, Botabari, Koupati, Bechimari, Daipam, Office Bazaar, Nepali Bazaar, Dhula are now seeking assistance from the government. As there is no rain and lack of irrigation facilities in most of the places have further deteriorated the situation.

On the other hand, those farmers who have irrigation motors are also facing troubles due to irregularity and unavailability of electricity in the fields. Meanwhile, the seedlings are being wasted as the farmers wait for the heavens to open up. Notably, the agriculture department has been maintaining silence over the entire issue. The farmers have demanded the state agriculture minister to take fruitful steps in this regard.
