IMPHAL, Sept 21: It is not only human beings but animals too that are facing the brunt of lockdown as monkeys who are close to starvation have started turning violent to the locals residing in and around the CI college, Bishnupur district of Manipur.
President of the Kumbi Urban Development Council, Wahengbam Bobychand led a team of several voluntary organisations and took the initiative of feeding the starving monkeys residing inside the campus of the College on Sunday. “It is indeed a tough time and we must come forward to help everyone – be it the needy men or the animals,” W Bobychand said while speaking to the HT correspondent.
He also appealed upon the people and concerned authorities for giving food to these starved monkeys. He admitted that monkeys are turning violent due to lockdown as they are not getting food leading to such change in their behaviour.
He added, “Since classes of this educational institute remained closed due to Covid-19, the hungry monkeys are entering the residential areas for food and attacking human beings when they are shooed away. During normalcy, the people and animal lovers fed them but due to the Covid pandemic, all the hotels and restaurants are closed too. They used to get the leftover food for these places but due to the pandemic this is not the case anymore.”
