GUWAHATI, Aug 5: The first conference of the All India Public Sector and Central Government Officers’ Confederation representing 13 lakh officers across the length and breadth of the country was held on Saturday in Chennai.
Delegates in large numbers from various sectors participated in the conference. The leaders from various sectors and organisation which includes RBI officers association, NCOA, Telecom, Oil, Banking, Railways, Defence, Pharmaceutical, NABARD, GST & Central Excise, LICI, Insurance, CPWD and Defence Ordinance factories in their deliberation shared their concerns on the retrograde measures of the government to privatise the public sector undertakings and enterprises.
The achievements and contributions of the public sector undertakings/enterprises were shared by the respective sectoral representatives. The representative also apprised the delegates on how the faulty policies of the successive government ensured systematic weakening of the public sector. Instead of making the persons responsible for the mismanagement the burden is now shifted to employees and a public perception is created using the electronic media in favour of privatisation. The committee was unanimous in opposing the roadmap laid by GOI at the behest of NITI Aayog, Banks Board Bureau and the RBI to weaken and then privatise the PSOs.
The conference resolved to oppose all such anti labour and anti people move of the government and to agitate and fight together whenever any sector or an enterprise is under attack. It was also resolved that the confederation will not accept the argument of ‘affordability’ for pay revision put forwarded by the government. The conference resolved to demand for a common forum of the public sector undertakings/ enterprises to represent and settle with the government for a uniform pay revision and other benefits due to them. The forum also demanded that there should be grievance redressal forum for central government gazetted officers.
It was resolved that the confederation will reach out to the common mass of this country through its program ‘Peoples Parliament for Unity and Development’ to know what sort of growth they require and will provide their support in each of the districts of the country. Awareness will be created amongst the public about the contribution of the public sector in the development of the nation since independence and its requirement for an inclusive growth of the nation and its people.
The government has always understated the efforts put in by the public sector and its employees to successfully conduct the various ambitious Social Security Schemes of GOI.
The All India Public Sector and Central Government Officers’ Confederation has decided to launch a nationwide agitation program to safeguard the public sector from merger and privatisation and till such time the move is not put to rest which includes nationwide demonstrations and a march to parliament.
