Flood affects train services, passengers stranded in many places

Guwahati, Aug 13: Altogether 22 trains have been cancelled, while 14 others are stranded at various places as tracks are flooded at many places across the North East, NF Railway spokesperson Pranab Jyoti Sharma informed here on Sunday.

Many passengers were stranded in Guwahati Railway Station as most of the trains were cancelled or controlled at the station due to the flood. The forest areas in Kaziranga National Park, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary and Lawkhua wildlife sanctuary are under flood waters.

Train services were disrupted in Katihar and Alipurduar Division. Railway lines were affected at as many as 12 locations initially, of which seven were already repaired and restored.

However, the situation aggravated on Saturday night when rain water submerged tracks near Dalkhola, Barsoi, Sudhani stations and the main line connecting North East with rest of the country being blocked with water under a bridge near Kishanganj station flowing over danger level.

A number of trains had to be stopped at various stations and a number of other trains had to be cancelled or rescheduled/ short-terminated. Some of the trains had to be brought back to originating stations or other convenient stations after attending to watering and taking other measures, Sharma said.

While many rivers in Alipurduar and Katihar Divisions are in spate, railway authorities are keeping a close watch and continuously monitoring the situation nearby railway bridges and tracks taking all precautionary measures for safe train running.
Two trains, 15903 Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express and 15636 Guwahati-Okha Express have been cancelled for Monday while eight trains have been cancelled on Sunday. These are: 15640 Guwahati-Puri Express, 15658 Guwahati-Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express, 12344 New Jalpaiguri Sealdah Darjeeling Mail, 15483 Alipurduar Jn – Delhi Sikkim Mahananda Express, 13148 New Coochbehar – Sealdah Uttar Banga Express, 12346 Guwahati – Howrah Saraighat Express, 13150 Alipurduar Jn – Sealdah Kanchan Kanya Express. 13142 New Alipurduar – Sealdah Tista Torsha Express was cancelled from New Jalpaiguri, 12378 New Alipurduar – Sealdah Padatik Express was cancelled from New Jalpaiguri.

15655 Kamakhya – Katra Express, 15930 Dibrugarh – Chennai Express, 14055 Dibrugarh – Delhi Brahmaputra Mail, 12423 Dibrugarh – New Delhi Rajdhani Express, 15909 Dibrugarh – Lalgarh Avadh Assam Express, 15960 Dibrugarh – Howrah Kamrup Express, 12505 Guwahati – Anand Vihar NE Express, 12364 Haldibari – Kolkata Express, 75708 / 75707 Siliguri – Radhikapur – Siliguri DEMU, 15464 / 15463 Siliguri – Balurghat – Siliguri were cancelled on Sunday. The rake will work as 55422 Balurghat – Malda Town passenger and 75720 / 75719 Malda Court – Siliguri – Malda Court DEMU.

Several trains have been stranded at various places. 13141 Sealdah – New Alipurduar Tista Torsha Express was short terminated at New Jalpaiguri, 15959 Howrah-Dibrugarh Kamrup Express was regulated at Dalkhola from 11.50 pm, 15934 Chandigarh – Dibrugarh Express was regulated at Dalkhola from 11.50 am.

Down 14055 Dibrugarh –  Delhi Brahmaputra Mail was controlled at New Jalpaiguri from 11.25 am and being taken back to Dibrugarh, Down 22512 Kamakhya – LTT Super Fast Express was controlled at New Jalpaiguri from 11.45 am and being taken back to Kamakhya, Down 12378 New Alipurduar Sealdah Padatik Express was short terminated at New Jalpaiguri, Down 13245 New Jalpaiguri-Rajendranagar Capital Express was controlled at Katihar and originate from Katihar, Down 15960 Dibrugarh – Howrah Kamrup Express was controlled at Guwahati from 7.35 am was being taken back to Dibrugarh, 12423 Dibrugarh – New Delhi Rajdhani Express was controlled at New Bongaigaon was being taken back to Dibrugarh, Down 12510 Dibrugarh – Bangalore Express was controlled at Barpeta Road is being taken back to Guwahati, Down 19306 Guwahati – Indore Shipra Express was controlled at New Bongaigaon from 8.14 am was being taken back to Guwahati, down 15909 Dibrugarh – Lalgarh Avadh Assam Express was controlled at New Coochbehar from 6.53 am was being taken back to Dibrugarh, Down 12518 Guwahati – Kolkata Garib Rath Express was controlled at Dhupguri was being taken back to Guwahati.

Stranded passengers in various stations were provided all possible basic amenities by the local Railway authority and the trains filled up with water at nearest possible watering points, he added.
