Dimapur, Sept 27: Former Nagaland Minister and two-time Assembly Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie passed away at a private hospital here early today morning. He was 68.
A State funeral will be held at Centenary ground in Jotsoma village at 1 pm tomorrow to pay last respect and homage to late Peseyie, Nagaland Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar informed in a release.
Peseyie was first elected to the 10th Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 8th Western Angami Assembly Constituency in 2003 general election from NPF ticket and became Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly the same. He won from the same constituency in 2008 general election and again became Speaker for the second time. He became minister after winning for the third time in 2013 general election from the same Constituency.
Under his convenorship when he was the Speaker for the second time, a Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) was formed and all with all the 59 MLAs in the House of 60, Peseyie met for,mer Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in August 2012 in Delhi and pressed upon him to bring early settlement to the Naga political issue.
Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang has expressed shock and pain over Peseyie’s death.
Expressing deepest condolences to Mrs. Vilekhono Peseyie and his children, Zeliang said, “We Nagas lost a great leader today.”
“A God-fearing man, straightforward and won to earth person, he not only led an exemplary life but his vision as a leader of the people was truly commendable and an inspiration to us all,” the CM said in his condolence message.
