DIPHU/HAFLONG, June 26: As part of nationwide Black Day programme of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to mark 43rd anniversary of the emergency imposed by then prime minister Indira Gandhi in 1975, party spokesperson and Bokajan MLA Dr Numal Momin addressed a press conference here on Tuesday.
“On the midnight of June 25 the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had imposed emergency in the country. Many opposition leaders were jailed. Our former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Union finance minister Arun Jatley were also sent to jail. By imposing the emergency, the Congress had murdered democracy in the country,” Dr Momin said in his press briefing.
“Not only opposition members were arrested, but also artists were not allowed to sing patriotic songs and media was censored during emergency. However, democracy was restored within two years after which Congress had to face defeat from Janata Party in the next general elections,” he said.
On the completion of four years of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and two years of the Sonowal government in the state, Dr. Momin highlighted various development schemes undertaken for the welfare of the people of the state.
Dr. Momin also said the BJP government is committed to eliminate of corruption, institutionalisation of honesty and enhancing transparency.
During previous Congress governments, there was large scale of corruption and funds meant for development were misused, he also said.
“Those corrupt officials are being put behind bars. Former APSC chairman Rakesh Paul along with 30 others involved in cash-for-job scam were arrested. During the Congress rule, the National Bamboo Mission under forest department in Karbi Anglong was misused. There are also corruptions charges against some of Congress leaders,” he said.
Dr. Momin said the BJP government is putting farmers at the front by doubling their income, with the support price at 1.5 times of the production cost for kharif crops and other facilities. In infrastructure development, the government has constructed around 1.69 lakhs km of road, around 1 crore houses were build and the railway network in Northeast India is converted to broad gauge.
For women welfare, the government has conducted more than 1.16 crores antenatal check-up, over 80 lakhs pregnant women were immunized, 3.8 crore women have got LPG connection and other facilities are provided to them, Dr. Monin informed.
For promotion education more educational institutions will be set-up and one more Kendriya Vidyalaya will come up in Bokakan in Karbi Anglong. For youth empowerment subsidized loans are being given. In the present BJP government the GDP has been increased considerable.
The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) under leadership of Tuliram Ronghang maximum development initiatives have been taken for welfare of the people. The press conference was attended by East Karbi Anglong BJP president and EM Ratan Teron and West Karbi Anglong BJp president Arun Terang, East Karbi Anglong BJP vice president Bharat Kr. Timung, general secretary Ajit Dey, vice presidents Dhonsing Teron and secretary Madhuram Lekthe.
In Haflong, the Pradesh BJP spokesperson Ramakrishna Ghosh addressed a press conference in the presence of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) CEM Debolal Gorlosa to mark the Black day.
Ghosh highlighted the schemes and other initiatives under taken by BJP-led government at the Centre and in the state
He also highlighted the scams unearthed by the government which took place during the Congress regime in the state, including cash-for-job scame in ASPC, Rs 32 crore DIPR scam, Rs 100 crore scame in agricultural department and Rs 1,700 crore scam in social welfare department.
Ghosh also said that the BJP government is giving more importance on infrastructure development in the hill areas of the state.
NCHAC chairperson Ranu Langthasa, Dima Hasao BJP president Nipolal Hojai, EMs and other senior leaders of the party were also present in the press conference.
