Gangs of North East hits theatre with its premiere in Shillong

SHILLONG, Aug. 19: Directed by Rupak Gogoi, Gangs of North East a romantic action thriller movie hit the theatres today with the premiere organised in Shillong. Co-produced by Sanjive Narain and Kenny Lyngdoh under the banner of AM Television and Tunein Infotainment, this film has already created buzz with its amazing trailer and eye-catchy posters.

The film revolves around drugs which is a crucial issue in Northeast. The film highlights on the consequence of falling in the trap of drugs.

Producer Sanjive Narain, said, “Drugs is a big issue for us and we want drugs to be eradicated from Northeast as you know how many people are affected in Northeast because of drugs and here we have a message that drug is really harmful for life”.

Talking about the casting which saw a variety of representation from various states, Narain said, “Our expectation was to make Northeast united so we had actors from Arunachal, Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya from everywhere everybody working together”.

“So when the project came to me I thought why not let’s take a chance and do this. Since Northeast has good number of Hindi population so we thought why not release it in Hindi first,” the producer said .

The film has a fresh visual outlook along with a captivating story and appealing characters. This is for the first time a film has been made in Hindi and Khasi language.  The film has been built in a unique mode with a smart cinematic look.

The movie revolves around the life of a teenage girl and her single mother residing in Shillong, and how everything changes when their present intertwines with their past. The screenplay runs across three different storylines, complete with elements of youth romance, tragic love and the underworld drug business. Beautifully penned by Avishka Phukan, it is very interesting to watch how the three stories unfold and merge into a single climax.

Debutant lead actor Vivek Bora shines in the entire film, and Rewati Chetri proves herself as a confident actress. Udayan Duarah, Fairypriya Ahmed and Manimala Das do justice to their characters. The eye catchers have to be the three villains portrayed by RK Robindra, Pradhan Deuri and Chiranjeeb Dutta.

Sharing his experience debutant Vivek Bora, the actor of the movie said, “I am from Assam and this is my debut movie and I want to thank our producer Kenny Lyngdoh for giving me this opportunity”.

Co producer of the film Kenny Lyngdoh, said, “We are expecting good result at the end because we have put in a lot of effort, if we can entertain people for two hours I think that will be my big success”.

Stating that the film look forward to have larger audience, Lyngdoh said, “Though it was shot in Hindi it will be multi lingual, the reason why we shot in Hindi was because we need to cater for wider audience and what I believe good film should come out from Northeast”.

The support cast includes Albert Mawrie, Manimala Das, Pradhan Dueri, Chiranjeeb Dutta, Robindra Rajkumar, Emsalon Jana Nongbet, Anna Taying and Florence Handique. Along with its bracing new look, the film amalgamates some colourful and action sequences designed by Pradhan Dueri.

Shot in some magnificent locations, the film unites the sentiments and lifestyle of Northeast India.  The script has been penned by Avishka Phukan. As a melting pot for talents of the Northeast, this film is the first ever attempt to expand the radius of exhibition from only a few districts of Brahmaputra valley to the entire Northeastern region.

Udayan Duwara another actor who plays a powerful and impactful role in the movie while speaking about his role said, “All the roles that I have done is very serious kind of role and here I played a very potential character and I hope I did justice to the role and this character which I am playing is very tough and emotional and tragic character”.

There is no doubt that debutant director Rupak Gogoi has given his level best to meet the minds of the cine-viewers of today’s world. Although it’s his first film in the direction department, he has a handful of experiences in different fields in the world of television and films.

Starting his career as an assistant director to Sanjeev Hazarika in the feature film Mimanxa, he went on to work in the television production and programming circuit in leading national channels including Star TV network (Star Jalsha) and  Zee TV network for many years.

Although, there have been many films produced in various regional languages of the Northeast in the past years, there hasn’t been any movie which encompasses the entire Northeast region. Debutante director, Rupak Gogoi, aims to correct that with his film Gangs of Northeast which was released on Friday.

The film’s music is scored by Zubeen Garg, Benjamin and Deepak Sarkar. The songs are being choreographed by Deepak Dey. The playback singing is being done by Zubeen Garg, Kabirruddin, Sapna Pathak, Anisha Lalu, Saint Dominic Kayer.

Gangs of Northeast has a lot of elements and sentiments which connects with the people of Northeast.
