Guwahati/DIPHU/ HAFLONG, Nov 5: Glowing tributes were paid to Dr Bhuipen hazarika on the occasion of his sixth death anniversary at various parts of the state. Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal led the state in paying tributes to Dr Hazarika by paying floral tributes to the portrait of the legendary singer at a programme held at Majuli.
Along with him Lakhimpur MP Pradan Barua, Tingkhang MLA Bimal Bora and a host of other dignitaries also paid their homage to the bard. Later, speaking on the occasion, Sonowal termed Dr Hazarika a great humanist who promoted humane values through evergreen masterpieces.
MP Pradan Barua, MLA Bimal Bora, Duliajan-Numaligarh Pipeline Limited chairman Rupam Goswami and a host of other admirers of Dr Hazarika from all walks of life were present on the occasion.
The sixth death anniversary of Dr Hazarika was observed in various parts of Karbi Anglong and Dima hasao. A programme was organised by Diphu Regional Students Union (DRSU) in Diphu. Floral tributes were paid on the portrait of Dr hazarika on the occasion. The programme was led by DRSU general secretary Shorjun Hanse.
Drawing competition and singing competition were organised for school children to mark the occasion. In the evening, candles were lit at Diphu Club and on the streets of Diphu market. Prizes for various competitions were given away in the evening.
AASU organising secretary Bedanta Saikia, Karbi Anglong District Students Union (KADSU) general secretary Tridep Bora, Diphu Regional Students Union (DRSU) president Simanta Gogoi and secretary Shorjun Hanse were present in the programme.
In Bokajan, Karbi Anglong District Committee of Asom Jatiyabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), and Bokajan Regional Committee of AJYCP remembered Dr Hazarika at CCI ground. Floral tributes were paid at the portrait of late Dr. Hazarika. Karbi Anglong AJYCP general secretary Jitu Phukon, adviser, Karbi Lammet Amei Barim Engti and others took part.
