Guwahati-Kolkata leg of BRO bike rally flagged off

GUWAHATI, Nov 25: PKH Singh, VSM, addl director general Border Roads, of HQ Addl DGBR (East) based in Guwahati flagged off the leg 4 – Guwahati to Kolkata – of the India @75 BRO motorcycle expedition conducted by Border Roads Organisation at a Gala function organised for the purpose at Guwahati. Earlier the 25 member team of the motorcycle expedition consisting of officers, supervisors and other ranks were accorded a rousing welcome by the addl DGBR PKH Singh, officers, supervisors and JCOs and other ranks at HQ addl DGBR (East) location at Lankeshwar, Guwahati.

As the nation celebrates 75 years of its Independence, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has envisioned the celebration of this year as “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.

Commemorating the momentous occasion BRO is conducting a Pan India Motorcycle Expedition which will cover approximately 20,000 km over 75 days and see participation of 75 karmayogi from all BRO projects; the expedition is planned in seven different legs. The Hero MotoCorp has provided 10 adventure motorcycles, protective gears, kits and fast-moving spares and accessories for the expedition members. The consumption of fuel and lubes is borne by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.

Earlier at New Delhi the expedition was flagged off by Union Defence minister, Rajnath Singh in presence of Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhary, VSM, director general Border Roads on October 14 at National War Memorial at India Gate.

PKH Singh, during his address wished the team members of the expedition a safe journey en route to Kolkata. He elaborated that the expedition is spreading the message of peace, national integration and harmony during it’s journey and with it’s outreach programmes have made local populace and masses aware about BRO achievements and contribution to nation-building in the last six decades. The addl DGBR emphasised the need to adhere to the Road Safety Awareness by the team and also local populace.

The expedition, after covering approximately 20,000 Kms over 75 days with more than 75 riders of all ranks of BRO, will culminate at New Delhi on December 27, BRO official sources informed.
