SHILLONG, Aug 12: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the East Khasi Hills police in its biggest-ever haul, seized 930 grams of drugs from a night super bus at Mawryngkneng in the wee hours of Sunday.
Twenty-five-year-old woman of Churachandpur district in Manipur, Veinethem Haokip and a juvenile were apprehended in this connection. The juvenile has been sent to a juvenile home.
Talking to reporters here on Monday, East Khasi Hills SP, Claudia A Lyngwa said that the street value of the heroin is worth around Rs 4 to 4.5 crore.
Lyngwa said that they recovered the drugs stuffed in 80 soap boxes from three bags.
Following interrogation of the driver and conductor of the bus, the ANTF personnel found three hidden compartments in the vehicle, from where foreign made cigarettes were seized, the police officer said.
Meanwhile, Sadar SDPO, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, who is in charge of the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), said that they did not find the drugs consignment when they had initially conduct the search of the luggage inside the bus.
“We later recovered the drugs from a special chamber concealed inside the luggage cabin of the night super,” Sadar SDPO said.
According to Jagpal, this is the biggest drugs consignment seizure in the state.
