Guwahati, Aug 8: India’s first track and field Gold medallist Hima Das, who clocked 51.46 seconds in the IAAF World U-20 Championships in Tampere, Finland, was honoured with a cheque of Rs. one lakh by Royal Global University (RGU) during its 2nd Orientation Programme for students held on Wednesday. Parents of Hima Das, Ronjit Das and Jonali Das were cordially invited, felicitated and handed over the cheque during the programme. Accepting the cheque on her behalf, Ronjit Das, reminisced how he would encourage her to run every morning and excel in it. A video clip showcasing the glorious victory of the 18 year old, brought tears to the eyes of the parents and the audience, comprising of students, faculty and staff members of RGU. Ronjit Das promised that whenever Hima is in Guwahati, she will definitely take time out to come and interact with the RGU students, who were so enthusiastically waiting to meet her. She journeyed her life from Dhing, Nagaon to Finland and encouraged the students to follow their dreams and never give up in life.
The 2nd Orientation Programme of RGU has been scheduled from 8-14 August. Chief Guest Dr. NC Talukdar, Director, IASST, Guwahati, Assam and guest of honour, Maninder Singh, IAS, Principal Secretary Higher Education Department, Government of Assam addressed the students on the first day of the programme. A dance recital on Ganesh Vandana and a Xatriya dance performed by the students added more vigour to the programme.
Dr.N.C.Talukdar, addressing the students,emphasized on inner ambition and pointed out that Hima Das is the ideal inspiration,who has shown that perseverance, determination and smart thinking can help achieve tough goals.
