GUWAHATI, Nov 21: The ongoing recruitment drive by ULFA (I) has not surprised Assam finance minister and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Reacting to the recruitment drive of banned ULFA-I, Sarma on Wednesday said, “There is nothing new in youth joining the ULFA-I. Every year, 150-200 youth join the outfit. I have seen this since 1985.”
There is nothing to surprise on Paresh Baruah’s nephew joining the ULFA-I. “If he (nephew) doesn’t join the ULFA-I, who will? Like the Congress party, Paresh Baruah also selected his own blood to take forward his mission, as his next heir,” the minister further said.
In a turn of events, Munna Baruah, the missing nephew of ULFA-I commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah, has joined the outfit in the last week.
Munna had gone missing three days ago from Digboi. After his family members found no trace of him anywhere they suspected him of joining the outfit.
