Guwahati, Aug 20: A son of a former judge of Gauhati High Court has surrendered before the police in Guwahati in connection with a hit and run case.
According to sources, Abinash Sharma, son of a former judge of Gauhati High Court, whose car had allegedly hit and killed a pedestrian on August 14 night surrendered before the Jalukbari police station here on Sunday night following public uproar over the incident.
On August 14 night, a Wagon-R car driven by Abinash Sharma hit a person named Ganesh Rao, an employee of Indian Railways, at Maligaon area leading to his death.
But, the Guwahati city police didn’t take any action against the owner of the car.
On Sunday evening, the residents of Maligaon area gheraod the Jalukbari Police Station demanding arrest of the culprit.
Following the public demand, the police issued summon to Abinash directing him to surrender by Monday (August 20).
The police, meanwhile, arrested Abinash, but he was granted bail on Monday.
Ponjit Dowarah, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Guwahati city police, said that the person was arrested and has been granted bail as it was a bailable offence.
A case (No – 1085/2018) was registered at Jalukbari Police Station under section 279, 338, 304A, 427 of IPC in this connection.
