Home delivery system of agro products in Guwahati soon

GUWAHATI, Aug 12: Assam Vegetable Growers’ Cooperative Society Ltd (AVGCSL) has decided to open a home delivery system of organic vegetables and other agro products in Guwahati before the start of September this year, AVGCSL chief executive officer (CEO) Rahum Amin told reporters here on Saturday.

Set up in 2014, the Society has been working for proper marketing of agro products throughout the state, including Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. It will also open such stalls for home delivery of agro products in all district headquarters of the state. The Society, which is now having 300 primary cooperative societies (PCCs), has planned to open 2,000 PCCs throughout the next year, Amin said.

The society has organised Vibrant Assam-2018, a mega farmers meet on March 4 next at the Veterinary Science Play Ground at Khanapara in Guwahati. Over 1.50 lakah farmers will take part in the programme, AVGCSL chief executive officer (CEO) Rahum Amin told reporters here on Saturday. .

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal will attend as a chief guest, finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and agriculture minister Atul Bora will attend as as guest of honour in the inaugural function.

“We have been helping small and marginal farmers for proper marketing of their produces to make Assam a self-sufficient state in vegetable production by 2022. The Society has completed three successful years of its existence. The strength of the members has gone up to 4.50 lakh, including 1.50 SC & ST farmers,” amin said.
