BAGHMARA, Aug 13: The District Horticulture Department South Garo Hills organized a World Honey Bee Day on a theme “Save the Bees” cum Kishan Mela at their office premises where a number of farmers and entrepreneurs from all parts of South Garo Hills District participated in the program. Rakkam A Sangma, Chairman of Meghalaya State Health Advisory Board and MLA in his speech dwelt at length on the importance of Bee-keeping and said that the goodness and usefulness of honeybees cannot be compared with anything but the environment that we lived should be feasible for their survival. He encouraged the people to plant more flower giving plants.
The MLA in his inspirational message to the farmers and the entrepreneurs of the District said that, “We as farmers should never feel ashamed of our profession rather we should be proud of ourselves for being a farmer, as it is the backbone of our economy.”
He urged upon the Horticulture Department to selectively study and survey the type of soil and then propose the schemes or projects that is relevant to the soil. He also called for the collective responsibility among themselves in bringing the differences to our District. Among others who spoke on the occasion included RR Marak District Horticulture Officer and the principal of Capt Williamson Memorial Government College Baghmara.
A presentation of cash award and certificate of appreciation were also been given to some farmers for their outstanding performance in different fields of horticulture so as to encourage the other farmers.
