GUWAHATI, July 7: The accused science teacher Jadab Saharia’s son, Pulakesh Saharia, who sustained bullet injuries and was undergoing treatment in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
The science teachers Jadab, who was also injured in the incident, is still undergoing treatment in the GMCH.
Pulakesh, a B Tech student, received bullet injuries when police fired at him and his family members who were allegedly trying to sacrifice a three-year-old girl child before an idol on Saturday evening.
After five-hour-long operation, police rescued the child from the clutches of science teacher Jadav Saharia and his six other family members from the residence of Saharia at Ganakpara village under Kalaigaon police station in Udalguri district.
The three-year-old child, to whom they wanted to sacrifice was Jadav’s his sister-in-law’s daughter as per the demand of the self-styled Godman Ramesh Saharia.
Ramesh Saharia hails from Baneikuchi village of Darrang. Locals alleged that Ramesh had been performing puja at Jadab’s house for the last three years.
The family members stripped off their clothes as the chanting of mantras were going on during the puja.
Local residents tried in vain to rescue the girl child, however, as the family members threatened to attack with machete and axe, police were called in.
They set the newly-bought Royal Enfield Thunderbird motorcycle and a Wagon-R car on fire.
Jadab Sahariah and his family members vandalised the household items like the television set, refrigerator and also set those on fire as if it’s doomsday of their life.
Police had to fire several rounds in the air to bring the situation under control.
During the firing, Jadab Saharia and his son Pulakesh Saharia were shot on their legs.
