Independence Day celebrated in Guwahati

GUWAHATI, Aug 16: The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated in various government and private organisations in Guwahati on Wednesday.

The commissionerate of Panchayat & Rural Development (P&RD) observed the 72nd Independence Day of the nation at its office premises at Juripar in Guwahati.

Joint Director of P&RD, Arup Sarma unfurled the national flag in presence of the officers and staff of the commissionerate on Wednesday.

In his speech delivered after hoisting the national flag, Sarma said, “Today if we are proud to be citizen of independent India, it is only because of our ancestors’ sacrifices.”

Paying homage to the freedom fighters of the country along with the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi he also said that as a responsible citizen now it’s our duty to contribute as per our capacity for the all round development of our country. Further he also said that P & RD department is dedicated to the upliftment of the poor people of villages of the state and as P & RD personnel it is the duty of all concerned to serve with dedication for fulfilling the department’s objectives.

I-Day at St Francis School

The day was also celebrated at St Francis D’ Assiss Senior Secondary School at Gorchuk in Guwahati on Thursday. The principal Bro Alloysious unfurled the national tricolour on the occasion. A series of programmes, including patriotic songs and others were also organised to mark the occasion.

I-Day at BRO headquarters

HQ additional director general of Border Roads Organisation located in BRO Complex in Jalukbari in Guwahati celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with great pomp and show at their picturesque campus on Airport Road. HQ Additional Director General of Border Roads (East) is responsible for directing, coordinating and monitoring the activities of seven North Eastern Projects headed by Chief Engineers responsible for maintenance and construction of roads in the North Eastern states.

I-Day at NF Railway

Northeast Frontier Railway was celebrated the 72nd Independence Day in a befitting manner. The central programme was held at the Maligaon Railway HQ complex, where General Manager of NF Railway Sanjive Roy unfurled the National Flag in presence of a huge gathering of railway officials and their family members. The General Manager also inspected an impressive Guard of Honour given to him by RPF contingents and Bharat Scouts & Guides. The Independence Day was also celebrated in all the five Divisions of NF Railway viz. Tinsukia, Lumding, Rangiya, Alipurduar and Katihar, where the Divisional Railway Manager unfurled the National Flag in presence of Divisional railway officials and their family members.

NFR (Construction)

The 72nd Independence Day was also celebrated at NF Railway Construction Hd. Qrts. complex, Maligaon with great enthusiasm. General Manager/Con NK Prasad unfurled the National Tri-colour followed by National Anthem and Rashtriya Salute.  He also took salute of the RPF contingent.

I-Day at SSB headquarters

SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) Frontier Headquarters Guwahati also celebrated the 72nd Indian Independence Day with traditional enthusiasm at its Khanapara Headquarters on August 15. Hoisting of National Flag followed by singing of National anthem and distribution of sweets to children and jawans were the main events of the celebration of Indian Independence Day.

I-Dat at Games Village

Along with the rest of the country, the 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with pomp and gaiety in Games Village (GV) premises at Lalmati in Guwahati too.

President of Games Village Welfare Society, Abdul Mutalib unfurled the national flag in presence of the residents of GV on Wednesday.

After hoisting the National Flag, in his speech Mutalib paid homage to the freedom fighters, great martyrs of the country along with the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and asked all to render their services for the betterment of the society.
