JORHAT, Dec 15:  The Indian Army held an exhibition of its arms and weaponry at the Jorhat Stadium under its ‘Know Your Army Mela’ programme on Tuesday.

The mela was organised on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of victory of Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 war against Pakistan that led to the liberation of Bangladesh.

The exhibition had a display of special weapons, infantry, air defence, communication equipment, air maintenance, supply and Army dog display. A film was also screened showing the capabilities and ethos of Indian Armed Forces.

A large number of students from schools, colleges and NCC of Jorhat and general public visited the mela, which was earlier opened with release of tri-colour balloons and felicitation of ‘Veer Nari’ Hirniya Gogoi, mother of Sepoy Rupam Gogoi (Shaurya Chakra recipient), who was martyred in 2009 in Jammu and Kashmir in an operation against terrorists under ‘Operation Rakshak’.
