DIPHU, Aug 10: Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State (JACAS) will not support the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, JACAS chairman Khorsing Teron told media persons here on Friday.
Teron said, “It is in the line with the decision taken at the national executive meeting of National Federation for New States (NFNS) held here on August 3 as well as the decision of the JACAS central executive committee meeting held on August 8. It was unanimously resolved not to support the BJP in the coming elections.”
When asked about the possibility of supporting any other party, Teron said the decision has not been made. Teron said it will not work with regional force Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) as it knows ASDC very well of.
JACAS has been spearheading an agitation demanding implementation of Article 244(a) of the Constitution of India for creation of an Autonomous State comprising Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao since its inception in 2013.
In 2014 Lok Sabha elections and in 2016 assembly elections, the JACAS had extended its support to the BJP as it had voiced for implementation of the Article 244(a) for creation of the Autonomous State.
However, Union minister of state for home affairs, Kiren Rijiju has told the parliament that the government is planning to scrap the Article 244(a) of the Constitution as it was recommended by the AGP-led four party alliance government in Assam in 1998.
