KOKRAJHAR, Aug 11:Villagers of Jhornagra in Kokrajhar district have come to mutual understanding and decided to maintain peace and integrity in the village after a meeting held on Sunday between the accused Badreswar Rabha and villagers in the presence of officials from district administration, police official and Social welfare department besides social organisation members.
Notably, the locals had recently asked Badreswar Rabha to leave the village suspecting him of practising witchcraft. Both Badreswar and villagers from Jhornagra attended the meeting initiated by the District Administration and agreed to maintain peace and understanding with tranquillity in the village. Six persons, in connection with the case have also been sent to jail on Saturday for ordering a villager to leave the village and police has been closely observing the issue. An awareness meeting over witchcraft superstition was also held at the village on Sunday.
On the other hand, CWC Kokrajhar chairperson Maloti Rani Narzary while expressing serious concern over the issue said, “It is a very unfortunate that people still are believing on black magic and witchcraft.” She urged everyone to avoid such unnecessary belief and lead a healthy living. Among others, additional SP Kokrajhar Rasy Rani Sharma, social activist Uma Rani Basumatary, Kokrajhar district Social welfare officer also graced the awareness meeting among others.
