JORHAT, Dec 10: The Court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM), has started a judicial probe into the death of Neeraj Das alias Kola Lora in police custody, the prime accused in the mob-lynching incident of November 29 here.
Neeraj reportedly died in a road accident while trying to escape police custody in the intervening night of November 30 and December 1 at 1.30 am at Napamuwa, Cinnamara on the Jorhat-Mariani road.
The notice further mentioned that on December 15 the court will hear the case regarding the death of Neeraj in police custody.
A public notice issued by the Jorhat CJM (in-charge) D. Kalita stated that as per police report submitted in the court Neeraj Das was apprehended on November 30.
The notice stated that in view of Neeraj’s death during police custody the CJM court has initiated a judicial probe into the incident, and hence the court has asked the family members of the deceased and any other persons having any information or claims/objections related to the death of the accused Neeraj Das to submit before the court by giving statements.
In the mob-lynching incident an AASU leader from Golaghat Animesh Bhuyan was killed and two others injured seriously.
The police has till date arrested 15 persons in the case out of which one died reportedly in a road accident and from among 14 others, six were in police custody while another was in the Child Observation Home, Lichubari here and seven in judicial custody.
