Judicial Court inaugurated in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, Aug 12: Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Justice Ajit Singh on Saturday inaugurated the Judicial Court in Karbi Anglong at Agriculture colony near Police Reserve in Diphu. With the inauguration of this court, the judiciary has been separated from executives in Karbi angling after Dima Hasao. The Judicial Court Dima Hasao was inaugurated in Jatinga on July 19, last. Earlier, deputy commissioner and executive officials acted as judicial magistrates in the twin hills.

In his address, Chief Justice Singh said, “Today Assam judiciary is going to see the sun rising in the Karbi Anglong district. I am proud to announce that a few days ago the judiciary was separated from the Executive in Dima Hasao and today it is being done in Karbi Anglong too. With today’s development, two out of three hills districts of Assam shall be having independent judiciary and we are planning to establish the same in West Karbi Anglong also.”

Appealing people to come forward to the judiciary, Justice Singh said, “Today we are inaugurating a court with necessary infrastructure which is capable of dispensing justice at the threshold of every household. I fervently request the common man to have faith in the judicial system so that the judiciary could deliver the best for the benefit of the poor litigants. I desire that the common people must come forward to the judiciary with their grievances openly and without any kind of thread, fear or suspicion, so that their rights are protected and preserved to the fullest.”

Justice Singh also said with a separate and independent judiciary, the common people will feel the difference of administration of justice and the executive. Till date, the disputes were adjudicated by the administrators, who also take judicial decisions.  He said by setting up a separate and independent judiciary will ensure that justice reaches the poor and needy.

Earlier, Portfolio Judge, Karbi Anglong Alfaz Ali said that in a democracy there are three important pillars – legislative, executive and judiciary. Ali said with a separate and independent judiciary people will get their grievances heard.

Judge in-charge, administrative department, Gauhati High Court Hrishikesh Roy said it was the long awaited demand of the people of Karbi Anglong and it is fulfilled.

In his address, Karbi Anglong DC Adil Khan said it will be a new chapter in the history of Karbi Anglong that the judiciary in Karbi Anglong will have its new beginning. It will be able to provide speedy remedy to the grievances of the public. Khan said now the judge rooms in his office will be empty.

District & Sessions Judge Karbi Anglong Amiruddin Ahmed, District & Sessions Judge, Nagaon Rita Kar, former MP Dr. Jayanta Rongpi, former MLA Holiram Terang and judges from Nagaon and Golaghat were present.

It may be mentioned here that former MP Dr. Jayanta Rongpi had taken the initiative for separation of judiciary from executive, when he was the CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). 26 years after he submitted a memorandum to President of India, his dream came to the reality on Saturday.
