GUWAHATI, Nov 23: Three contract killers, including a young girl, were arrested by police from three different places of Lower Assam on Friday in connection with the sensational murder of State Bank of India (SBI) service manager Junu Sarma, who was gunned down at Agyathuri in Kamrup district on October 9, last.
The trio has been identified as Arup Das (Tihu), Ajanta Kalita (Hajo), Puja Das (Kulhati).
Police also recovered one 9 MM pistol five rounds of live ammunition and four mobile handsets from the gang.
Police said Arup Das is a surrendered activist of ULFA(I) and he had laid down his arms before police in 2017. The illegal 9MM pistol that was used for the murder was under his possession, police said.
According to the report, Arup Das fired upon Junu Sarma. The motorcycle in which the killer was riding belongs to Ajanta Kalita, they said.
Police further said Ajanta Kalita was riding the motorcycle at the time of the incident while Puja Das had given all information relating to movement of Junu Sarma.
Earlier, police arrested bank official Sunil Mishra, bank agents Putul Ali alias Saddam Hussain, Mantu Ali and driver of Junu Sarma’s vehicle Pranab Kalita.
Putul Ali was the mastermind of the killing and he had paid Rs 5 lakh to the gang of three for killing of the bank official owing to a personal rivalry with her. The bank officer Sunil Mishra was also a part of the conspiracy, police said.
