DIPHU, Sept 13: The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang on Thursday regretted that a section of media has been wrongly portraying the simple and innocent people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.
“There are people who always portray the Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao in negative light with false information. They want to portray these three hill districts as the worst place to be in and made insinuations. Take for instance, Dima Hasao was blamed for a Rs 1,000 crore scam whereas the district has received only Rs 70 crore annual budget from the state government,” Ronghang said addressing the 63rd foundation day celebration of Dimasa Students Union (DSU) at Joysing Doloi Auditorium here Thursday.
Pointing out to the vilification of Karbi Anglong in a section of the media, the CEM said, “Karbi Anglong is also being falsely blamed. The activity of some criminals is being used to portray Karbi Anglong as the worst district whereas the hill tribe people are just simple and innocent. Take for instance the Panjuri Kachari gaon lynching case, in which a community as a whole is being blamed. Karbi Anglong is presented as an unsafe place.”
The CEM also said that there are incidents in Guwahati as well where a woman was stripped and paraded on full public view. For the fault of some groups of people a whole district or a particular community cannot be blamed.
The CEM also urged the student community to desist from involvement with political parties. “Students have responsibilities towards development and education. They stand on their own feet and should not become an agent for political parties. They should be independent. Division should not be created between the people of Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts on the long standing demand of Autonomous State and should be united,” he said.
The DSU celebrated its 63rd foundation day at Joysing Doloi Auditorium as Dimasa Student’s Day. On the occasion a cultural procession was also taken out from Joysing Doloi Auditorium through the main thoroughfare and back to the auditorium. A large number of Dimasa students participated in their traditional dresses.
