GUWAHATI, Jan 31: The 44th Karbi Youth Festival (KYF), one of the biggest festivals of Northeast, will kick off at Taralangso from February 16. Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) CEM Tuliram Ronghang will inaugurate the festival on February 16.
Union minister of state for home affairs Kiren Rijiju was also invited to attend the inaugural ceremony of the festival, but he is yet to give his consent.
The festival has been organised by influential Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) sine 1974 to preserve and develop Karbi traditional folk culture. The reception committee headed by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chairman Horensing Bey as president and former MLA Chandra Kanta Teron as general secretary, has been working war footing for the preparation of the festival.
“This time, the Karbi People’s Hall is named as Rukasen Sanskritik Samanway Kshetra in memory of the founder of traditional Karbi village ‘Rukasen’. 50% of the preparation has already been finished,” KCS president Chandrasing Kro, general secretary Bidyasing Rongpi and reception committee general secretary Chandra Kanta Teron told reporters in Guwahati on Wednesday.
“Like previous years, this year too, 24 zonal committee of KCS, Karbis of Arunachal Pradesh, Bhoi Karbis of Meghalaya, Dumra Karbis of Kamrup and Karbis of Biswanath Chariali and Umrangso are expected to take part in the festival,” they said.
The festival will end on February 19, he added.
