GUWAHATI, Sept 18: Troops of Red Horn Division under Gajraj Corps captured a top leaders of banned militant groups Kuki Liberation Front (KLF) from Sukhanjan village in Karbi Anglong district on Sunday, defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneet Newton informed here on Monday.
The captured leader has been identified as Lummilen Bey, the publicity secretary of KLF and he is wanted in a number of cases. A pistol of foreign make and ammunition was recovered from him.
Based on specific actionable intelligence on presence of a top leader of the KLF, a joint operation with Assam Police was launched by the troops in the area. “The operation was launched on sound military planning and seamless coordination with the police and it yielded results, contact was established and the KLF leader was captured,” he said.
It was revealed that there is a camp in the vicinity in Mulhoi Village, which was being used by the members of the militant outfit as a hideout.
Troops along with the police launched an operation without wasting any time to capitalise on the lead they had received. On arrival at the site the party found an abandoned camp comprising of some huts, from where a country-made rifle, rations and other survival stores were recovered.
