DIPHU, July 21: Karbi Students Association (KSA) faction led by its president Thangsing Timung celebrated its 62nd foundation day at its office in Rongthe-ang here on Wednesday.

On the occasion, KSA president Thangsing Timung reiterated that the Centre and state governments should implement Article 244 (A) of the Constitution of India for the creation of Autonomous State comprising of the three hill districts of Assam and full-fledged university status for the existing Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC).

While talking to media persons, KSA president Timung said, “We declare the KSA foundation day as ‘Students’ Day’. We would like to encourage our youth to excel in higher education in order to serve the people. We would like to reiterate to the Centre and state government for immediate implementation of Article 244 (A) of the Indian constitution for creation of an Autonomous State comprising the three hill districts of Assam.”

Timung commended the step of the state government to establish a state university at Khanduli in West Karbi Anglong for which 5,000 bighas of land have been allotted by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). But at the same time KSA wants the AUDC to be a full-fledged university.
