DIPHU, Sept 28: Karbi Students Association (KSA-Inglongpho) on Friday demanded Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal to hold talks with Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma to resolve the border dispute of Karbi Anglong with neighbouring Nagaland and Meghalaya.
The student body has placed this demand during the meeting of the representatives of various organisations of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao with Assam Legislative Assembly speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami in Guwahati on September 28.
Addressing a press conference at Rongthe-ang here on Friday, the KSA president Bjoy Bey said such talks should be held within a short span of time as the situation along the inter-state border is alarming.
Bey said the student body also placed the demand for implementation of Article 244 (a) of the Constitution of India for creation of an Autonomous State for Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.
“This is for the first time in the history of Assam a meeting was convened to discuss the problems of the hill districts. He expressed his gratitude to speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami for the meeting and giving them opportunity to highlight the burning issues of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao”, he said.
