DIBRUGARH, Dec 19: A carcass of a female leopard was recovered on Sunday at Pub Banipur area in Dibrugarh.
The locals spotted the carcass of the leopard and informed the forest officials.
According to forest officials, around 12.30 pm the carcass of the leopard was recovered from Pub Banipur area.

“The leopard aged around 1 year was run over by a passing vehicle while it was crossing the road. The leopards frequently pass through the National Highway to tea gardens areas,” said Pallab Saikia, a forest official.

Saikia said, “The postmortem report of the leopard shows her broken bones. It is often seen that leopards are killed after speeding vehicles run over them.”

However, it was not the first instance that a leopard was killed by a speeding vehicle. Many such instances were reported from different areas of Assam.
“In the winter season due to thick fog, people driving the vehicles can’t see properly and as a result their vehicles run over animals while crossing roads. Most of the time dogs are killed by vehicles while crossing roads,” said Bijay Gogoi, an environmentalist.
