GUWAHATI, Feb 22: Over 300 women activists of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Mahila Morcha took out a procession in Noonmati area against the incompetence of the ruling Government regarding piped water supply in Guwahati on Monday.
LDP Mahila Morcha said in a statement that the current BJP government had assured to resolve the piped water issue several times. “However, till date, various parts of the city are reeling under no water distribution facility and have to rely on buying water for their daily chores,” it added.
The president of LDP Mahila Morcha’s Kamrup Metro District Dipali Saikia pointed out the fact that in 2013, the then Prime Ministerial aspirant and now the 2 time Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also mocked the then Chief minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi during a rally in Guwahati for the same. “But after the elections, like any other greedy and cunning politician, he has forgotten about our plights,” she added. She further alleged the Prime Minister of bluffing a lot and having no intentions of doing things as promised.
Noonmati Mandal president, Saroja Singha said, “As per reports published in various journals, Guwahati needs 229 to 255 mld (Million Litres per Day) of water supply, but in reality, it has a mere 75.5 mld in the city and out of that the real output is only 44.4 mld. There are three ongoing projects currently in the city for the last 10 years which still show no sign of completion.” LDP Mahila Morcha in the press release demanded the ruling BJP to wake up from hibernation and act on their promises to the residents of the city before the upcoming election. They further demanded the government to provide monthly financial assistance of Rs1000 to the BPL families in the city to resolve the water buying issue.
